In a recent Israeli study, reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, researchers have found that people who had 580 mg of dairy calcium everyday, for two years, lost 12 pounds of body weight on average. Whereas by having 150 mg of dairy calcium in the form of milk and dairy products, one might lose 7 pounds of body weight within two years. The weight loss remains unaffected by the type of diet a person consumes. In this study, participants were asked to adopt low carb, low fat or Mediterranean-style diet.
Along with your daily calcium intake, to lose weight you must ensure adequate consumption of vitamin D rich foods. Milk and dairy products, especially milk fortified with vitamin D are prominent sources of vitamin D in the diet. However, regulated exposure to sunlight would boost the vitamin D level in your body.
